Items and Upgrade Components in World of Warcraft
Upgrades can increase the value of armor and weapons. Upgrades to common and magic gear are rarely worth it, since rare or exclusive items are likely to outperform them.
Upgrades can be added to an item up to six times. Each upgrade will increase the item gauge.
Glyphs

Weapons are typically the most expensive. Additionally, you'll have to complete certain quests to acquire the required items. For example, if you are looking to upgrade your armor, you will need one of the three Power Dices dropped by monsters 21 and above in addition to some Erons and Minerals.
Recycled items
